You are here because you’re not sure if your roof needs to be repaired or replaced, trying to get ideas for your roof replacement, or just want to learn about the process. On the flip side, you may already know you need your roof replaced, and you are here to see if Performance Roofing is the right roof replacement company for you?

Our Roof Replacement Process

Things to know prior to roof replacement:

Once our professional roofing team has inspected your home and determined you need a replacement, we then sit down with you to go over our findings that we documented, along with educating you about the next steps moving forward you need to know which include:

  1. Regulations – In some states you need licenses, however Texas does not require roofing companies to have a license to replace a roof. This is why you need to do your research first so you can trust the roofing company you go with. We think it’s important to spend the time to educate you about who we are as a company, how we got started, and what separates Performance Roofing from the rest. While we hope you choose us, it is always good to get a few bids so you know you are choosing the right roofing contractor.
  2. Roof Materials – Depending on the style of your home and prior system, this will determine which type of roofing system we recommend. While most people keep with the same materials, for example going from asphalt shingles to another asphalt system, in some cases homeowners will go from an asphalt system to tile, metal, or another specialty roof system.
  3. Budget – The main factor that goes into budget is if you are replacing the roof out of your own pocket, or if this was a roof replacement caused by storm damage. If it was caused by storm damage, you will only be responsible to pay what your deductible is from insurance. While a roof replacement is never fun, this can be a great time to improve the curb appeal, along with protecting your asset with a roofing system that will last.
  4. Style, Aesthetics, and Durability – Based on your home, budget, and needs, we will give you our suggestions of color and type of roofing system we recommend installing based upon the materials. For example, typically an older asphalt roofing system is built with a 3 tab shingle or architectural shingle. If your prior system was a 3 tab, we highly recommend upgrading to an architectural shingle that will last longer, have a higher wind rating and have more appealing options. If you already have an architectural shingle, you may want to upgrade your next roofing system to a class 4 (impact resistant) because of the severe weather we get here in North Texas. These systems also tend to last longer which requires less maintenance and saves you money in the long run. On top of this, newer roofing systems offer more energy efficiency. North Texas can get hot, so if keeping your home cooler is a priority, there are new systems designed specifically for this. While there are many roofing systems that can help your home stay cooler, one of the top systems we recommend is Atlas Pinnacle Sun with a cool roof technology.
  5. Written Estimate and Contract – Our roofing consultant will provide you with a written estimate and contract. One thing to make sure is never pay a roofer before the job is started. Don’t let them take your money and run.
  6. Time Frame – Once you have determined which roofing system to go with that fits your budget, along with which roofing company to replace your roof, next you need to determine what time of year you should replace your roof. Factors that determine when you can replace your roof are weather: we can’t install a roofing system under 55 degrees, and of course not when it’s raining, availability of materials, along with the roofing company’s availability to install as well.

Replacing the roof:

Once you have determined which roofing system is best for your property, and who will install this system, we then pick a day that works for your schedule. The first thing we start with is tearing all the old shingles off down to the bare decking. One of our favorite sayings is: You cannot inspect the deck unless you can see the deck. Many times during roof replacements, we find rotted wood decking that needs to be replaced in certain areas, or even worse, the entire roof. If the decking is in good condition, we then double check to see if any boards are loose and need to be nailed down. Next, we install all of the underlayment. It is important to make sure your roofer chooses a high-quality underlayment so you are less likely to have leaks if a problem occurs. This underlayment is what goes between the decking and the shingle to be installed. Along with this is the ice and water shield that is installed in the valleys and around any penetration areas susceptible to leaking like a pipe vent or valley. Finally, we will install the shingles, along with the ventilation system and accessories. When you replace your roof, we highly recommend upgrading to a solar power ventilation system.

Mention code solar vent when you call or message us and we will upgrade your roof replacement with a solar power ventilation system for no extra cost. One last thing to add, once your roof is replaced, make sure your roofing company is cleaning up all of the debris and nails on the ground so your family or pets don’t hurt themselves.

What Causes Your Roof to be Replaced

What causes your roof to be replaced?

  • Storm Damage: Shingles can be cracked, curled, worn, or missing due to hail, wind, and strong thunderstorms.
  • Old age: Things like moss or mold can break down the roofing system over time and cause it to be susceptible to leaks. Prior storm damage can also be missed and over time create granule loss.
  • Maintenance: Minor repairs that were not fixed, or not fixed correctly, can leak to larger problems down the line. Often a roof is so old that it is more cost effective to replace instead of continued repairs that only fix the short term.
